Edith Victoria was the fifth child and second daughter of Elias and Mahala Sharpe Barnes. She married G. L. Fordham, a merchant, with whom she moved to Kinston, Lenoir County.
The couple had one child who did not survive long enough to receive a name. Edith died only three months after her 24-year-old husband. They both, as well as their child, are buried in her family cemetery on land that was part of her parents large farm.
