Calvin Edwin Fitzwater, 77, of Pratts, Va., and formerly of Moorefield, W.Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Countryside I Adult Assisted Living in Pratts.

Mr. Fitzwater was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Hardy County, W.Va., and was a son of the late Abraham J. and Mary Catherine Whetzel Fitzwater.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served during World War II as an aerial gunner.

He is survived by four daughters, Juanita Frye of Leesburg, Charlotte Wolfe Podleiszek of Fredericksburg, Rhonda Ford of Brightwood, and Leona Taylor of Madison; two brothers, Russell Fitzwater and Noah Fitzwater of Moorefield, W.Va.; three sisters, Nina Pierce of Petersburg, W.Va., and Shirley Hose and Maxine Shrout of Moorefield; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pastor Raymond Helmick and the Rev. Harold Garber will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield, W.Va. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army and the Moorefield Veteran's Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
