Dr. George C. Eckley, 91, Monmouth, died today at Monmouth Nursing Home, where he was admitted a week ago. He had been in failing health for several months.

Dr. Eckley was born in Stark County, March 11, 1868. After graduating from Toulon Academy, he attended the Chicago Veterinary College, from which he graduated in 1892.

He practiced in Altona for five years and, while there, was married to Rose Alice Barnes, Dec. 28, 1893. In 1897, the couple moved to Monmouth, where Dr. Eckley was a practicing veterinarian and handled livestock losses for the Aetna and American Insurance companies over 30 years.

Working with the late Dr. W.F. Brownley of Kirkwood 55 years ago, the doctors formed the Mississippi Valley Veterinary Assn., which Dr. Eckley served as secretary for many years.

Dr. Eckley was a member of Monmouth Lodge, IOOF, Hiawatha and Encampment, Friendship and Rebekah lodges, Harry Wilson Club and First Methodist Church of Monmouth.

Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Scott Shrode; a son, Ralph; a brother, Jack; and a sister, Carrie Stetcler.

Among those who preceded him in death were a brother, Dr. Milo Eckley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Holliday and Hoover Memorial Chapel. Burial will be made in the Monmouth Cemetery.
