Niles L. Dice 96, of Indianapolis, passed from this life at Marquette Manor Healthcare Center in Indianapolis on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. He was born on March 22, 1918, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Niles was the son of Charles A. and Rebecca S. (Umberger) Dice and was one of six children, four boys and two girls, who grew up on the family farm located near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Niles graduated from Marysville High School in 1936. He took a diesel engine service course in New York City and went on to enroll in the engineering program at the General Motors Institute, (now Kettering University), in Flint, Michigan. He then moved to Indianapolis and joined the Allison Transmission Division of General Motors in 1940.

Niles and Suzanne had two children, Jeffrey N. (Ginny) Dice who now resides in Johnson City, Tennessee, and Patricia J. (Carson) Smith who lives in Indianapolis. In addition to their two children, Niles and Suzanne are survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren

The family will host a celebration of a life well lived in the Parlor of North United Methodist Church, in Indianapolis, from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to North United Methodist Church at 3808 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
