Manford L. Norris, 90, of Wanatah, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 4:58 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Avalon Springs Health Campus, Valparaiso, Indiana.

He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Culver, Indiana, to Victor Leo and Minnie Alice (Bowen) Norris.


Manford was a retired school teacher for the Morgan Township School System. He honorably served during WWII in the United States Army and had received a Purple Heart during his service. Manford fostered seven children over the years. He was an active member of the Crossroads Baptist Church, Wanatah. Manford had been a Sunday School teacher and a song leader during church services. He volunteered at Baptist Children’s Home and enjoyed playing the dulcimer.

On Aug. 11, 1956, he married Luella (Osborn) Norris, who preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1991.

On July 3, 1992, he married Ruth (Beasley) Norris, who preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2016.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers Nelson, John, Woodrow, Wendell and James Norris; and two sisters Lucille Speck and Betty Miller.

Surviving are four children Karen (Gary) Bolton of Knox, James (Kim) Norris of North Carolina, Linda (David) Carullo of Valparaiso and Alan (Kathy) Norris of Westville; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
