JACOBUS - Ethel R. Smith, 87, of Jacobus and Country Meadows of Leader Heights died at 8:45 p.m. Monday at Manor Care South, York. She was the wife of the late Bruce V. Smith.

The service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin St., Jacobus. Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery, Jacobus. Viewings will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Heffner Funeral Home of Jacobue, Inc., 53 N. Main St., Jacobus, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Smith was born April 22, 1907 in York Township. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Annie M. (Hoffman) Glatfelter.

She and her late husband founded Smith Village in 1932.

A member of Salem United Church of Christ, she belonged to Jacobus Leisure Club.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, Donald L. Smith of Seven Valleys, Dale V Smith of Jacobus, and Dallas L. Smith of York; two daughters, Anna Mae Gerlach of York, and Susan Hake of Jacobus; 10 gradchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Glatfelter of Glen Rock; and two sisters, Gladys Hess of York and Verna Gable of Dallastown.

Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Fred A. Walthour.
