Gladys Anna (Glatfelter) Hess, 89, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl E. Hess. Funeral Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church, Jacobus, her pastor, Rev. Ray Hatcher, officiating. Burial in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hess was born February 13, 1916, in York Township, a daughter of the late Oscar J. and Annie (Hoffman) Glatfelter. She was employed as a seamstress for several years at South Pine Night Wear. Her top priority was always her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she was deeply devoted. Mrs. Hess is survived by her two sons, the Rev. Richard E. Hess of Morrisville and David L. Hess of Moab, UT; her three daughters, Shirley A. Stambaugh of York, Gloria M. Matthew of San Antonio, TX, and Jocelyn F. Beck of Reading; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Verna Gable of York; and nieces and nephews. [York Daily Record]
