R. Dennis Gardner, 49, 2146 B. 750 N., Camden, died at 11:35 p.m. March 10, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.

Born Sept 29, 1951, in Hammond, he was the son of Raymond C. And Betty A. Stewart Gardner. He was married to Wendy Jo Gootee on July 7, 1973, in Hammond, and they divorced in 1979.

Gardner had been employed in the maintenance department at Logansport State Hospital since October and prior to that, in the maintenance department at Indiana Packers Corp., Delphi. A 1969 graduate of Morton High School, Hammond, he attended Purdue University Calument Campus from 1971 to 1972, and earned a Certificate of Completion in Industrial Mechanic Apprenticeship from Prairie State College, Dalton, Ill., in 1977. In 1984, he received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Ivy Tech.

Surviving are his mother, Betty A. Gardner of Camden; one son. Christopher Michael Gardner of Hammond; five brothers, Wayne Gardner of Cameron, Wise., Ralph Gardner of Munster, Clark Gardner of Mooresville, Larry Gardner of Granger and Paul Gardner of Barron, Wisc.; one sister, Karen Gardner of Hammond; and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. James Lund officiating. Burial will be in Camden Cemetery.
