Betty A. Gardner (Stewart), age 87 of Portage, IN, formerly of Hammond and Camden, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Sterling House. Betty was born on June 24, 1918 in Valparaiso, IN to Clark Stewart and Lucille Fulton. She married Raymond C. Gardner in Hannibal, MO on November 7, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1999. Betty is survived by four sons: Wayne (Louise) Gardner, Cameron, WI, Ralph (Joan) Gardner, Munster, IN, Clark (Judy) Gardner, Mooresville, IN, Larry (Sandi) Gardner, Granger, IN; one daughter, Karen Gardner, Hammond, IN; 20 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her three youngest sons: Greg, Dennis and Paul; her brother, Clark Stewart. Betty was a homemaker. She was a 1936 Graduate of East Chicago Washington High School, Covenant Presbyterian Church then transferred to Sharon Baptist Church, 50 year member of Order of Eastern Start #475 at Camden, Camden Women's Literary Club, Extension Homemakers. Visitation will be held at Cree Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9 am CST to time of service. Services will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 12 Noon CST at Cree Funeral Home in Camden, IN with Rev. James Lund officiating. Interment Camden Cemetery, Camden, IN. Arrangements by Cree Funeral Home, 118 W. Main St., Camden, IN, P.O. Box 22.
