S. A. Charles, a former Lewistown, resident and employee of the Standard Steel Works Company, died of a heart attack at this home in Monmouth, Ill., and was buried there on April 9. Although in ill health for some time, Mr. Charles had worked in usual health during the day, death coming at 9:55 o'clock in the evening. Mr. Charles had been a resident of Monmouth the past eight years and had been connected with the Monmouth Diary Company in partnership with Frank Burke and Roy Graham. He had been engaged in dairy business nearly his entire life. He was born in Hopkins, Mo., on January 8, 1880, and was a son of John and Amanda Gohn Charles. He married Maude J. Hawk here in November 1902. To this union five children were born, four of whom with their mother survive. The children are two sons, Arthur Samuel and James Andrews Charles, and two daughters, Mrs. Lila Mae Parsons and Mabel Elizabeth at home, all of Monmouth. One son John D. passed away last November as the result of injuries received while with the Combat Train of the 123rd Field Artillery of the Illinois National Guard at Harry, Walter, and Elmer of Lewistown, Daniel of Sharon, Benjamin of Youngstown, Ohio, Reid of Monmouth and John Charles of Colby, Kansas and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Burke of Monmouth and Mrs. Mary Barnum of Lewistown. The Charles family went to Monmouth from DeKalb, Ill eight years ago. Mr. Charles was a member of the Moose lodge. {unknown newspaper obit}
