She was born on October 30, 1910, in Eckman, ND, the third child of Philo and Agnes (Marsh) Chase. Marge was raised on the farm that had been her mother's homestead. She attended high school in Eckman, Deering, and Fargo, ND. She graduated from high school and started college at the Agricultural and Manual Arts School (NDSU) in Fargo in 1927. Marge went on to a teaching career in country schools for six years before her marriage. Later, she continued her studies and received her B.S. degree in elementary education at Minot State College in 1964, and a Masters in Education degree from the University Of North Dakota in 1969.
Marge was married to Claude A. Olson on March 31, 1934, in Minot, ND. They were wed secretly until the end of the school year, as women teachers, at the time, were not allowed to be married. Claude and Marge made their home in Deering, and raised three children: Ronald, David, and Sherill. Claude died on July 8, 1961.
Marge had been teaching in the elementary department in the Deering school system for ten years. In 1964, after receiving her bachelor's degree, Marge began her 16-year association with Minot State College (MSU) as the second grade-supervising teacher of the Campus School. She retired as Professor Emeritus in 1980. She then assisted the college for several years as an adjunct professor for supervising student teachers who had been placed in surrounding schools.
Marge was a member of Deering Lutheran Church , the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Minot Book Club and the Luncheon Group of Retired Professors in Minot.
Marge especially loved to visit with people and appreciated contact with former students. Her friends at Somerset Court had been her special social group during the last five years.
