He was a son of Alfred H Armstrong and Alice Lacey Armstrong of Wilkes-Barre, PA. His high school yearbook 1939 Kingston, PA says "I've been 5 minutes late all my life", member of Pi Delta, Civil Engineers, Wrestling and Vocational Guidance clubs. At age 18 he had moved to New York City, working as an errand boy for an office equipment company. He served in the Navy during WWII. In 1950 he lived in Plainfield, NJ which is most likely where he met his wife, Muriel Savale. By 1956 the couple lived in Albuquerque, NM. At some point they moved to Australia
