Sylvester “Sy” See, 77, of Hilbert, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, after a courageous 5 month battle against lung cancer at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Sylvester was born October 25, 1938 in Chilton, son of the late Edward and Loretta (Buechel) See. On June 1, 1960 Sy married Judith Schaffer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert.Sy served his country in the United States Army Reserves and was employed for Wicks Lumber Company and later for Vande Hey Brantmeier. Upon retirement, he wanted to continue to keep himself busy by picking up a part-time job at Mirsberger Sales and Services Inc.Sy was certainly a Jack of all Trades who enjoyed time spent fixing anything he could get his hands on. Sy had a fantastic sense of humor and was able to strike up conversation with anyone he came across. His gentle spirit and his love of family was self-evident, especially during time spent with his grandchildren. Sy especially enjoyed the time he spent on the road and the places it took him.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; his children, Jeff, Debbie, and Amy (fiancé, Victor Vereen); four grandchildren, Michael, Bryan, Dakota , Adam; a brother, Melvin (Carol) See; four brothers-in-law, Cliff (Vi) Schaffer, Clayt (Diane) Schaffer, John Schaffer and Andy (Nancy) Schaffer; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.In addition to his parents, Sy was preceded in death by his son, Steven; a sister, Julitta (Elroy) Hegewald; two brothers, Al (Bonnie) See and Tony See; a brother-in-law, Ermin Schaffer; and a sister-in-law, Susie Schaffer.

Funeral Services will be at 11:30am on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (108 S. 6th Street) in Hilbert with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Hilbert. Friends may call at church from 9:30am to 11:15am on Saturday.A memorial fund has been established in the name of Sylvester “Sy” See.Sy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the care and compassion shown to him.
