John J. Murphy, 79, Stiles, died peacefully Thursday morning, February 18, 2016 at his home while lovingly being cared for by his sister, Rosalie. The third child of Mark and Zoe (Younger) Murphy was born December 2, 1936, his parents wedding anniversary. There were ten boys and four girls in the Murphy family. As a young man, John served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. John farmed and was a union millwright of Local 1146 since the age of 18, working alongside his father and nine brothers in numerous paper mills in Wisconsin and Michigan. One of his favorite hobbies was inventing things, especially farm equipment which sold at farm technology days. John also enjoyed caring for animals including buffalo, Scottish Highland cattle, sheep and ducks as well as gardening, making dry floral arrangements and building things. Survivors are his three sisters, Margaret (Ronald) Janousek, Kathleen (Alfred) Glish and Rosalie Murphy; his six brothers, Jerome, Thomas, Paul, William, Vincent and Patrick Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Mark, Robert and Peter Murphy and an infant sister, Patricia. Visitation will be held after 12noon Thursday, February 25, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stiles until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2pm Thursday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will take place on the family lot in the parish cemetery.
