He married Bertha Mae Tunwell from Manistee, Michigan in 1936. They would have five children; William, Mary, Nancy, David, and Ellen.
They were members of the Dunkard-Brethren Church. His father, Zachariah Leander Bussear, was a preacher in the church and he started the Long Lake Church and cemetery in 1914. I can truthfully say that my father tried to walk in Christ's footsteps all the days of his life! He was a carpenter by trade and would proudly say, "My Lord was a carpenter!"
He was also a strawberry farmer. I can remember one day when a poor widow with children came to pick strawberries at our farm. As we were loading the strawberries into the trunk of her car, I watched my dad slip a $20 bill into one of the strawberry boxes!
He truly taught by example and I am a better man because he was my father!
