Zachariah Leander Tazwald Robert Bussear was born on a farm near Montpelier, Blackford County, Indiana on Marxch 29,1880. He was the youngest child in the family. He had an older sister named Mary Louise who was born in 1873. He had a half-sister name Margret Pearl Guldice and a half-brother named Oscar Guldice.
Zachariah would work for the local farmers in the area to earn extra money. One day, he went to work for a Dunkard preacher's family. At noon, the men went in to eat and Zachariah noticed a young lady helping to serve the food. She was listed as a "servant" in the 1900 United States Federal Census. Their eyes met and sparks flew. They were married in January of 1900.
Bessie Olive was born on September 9, 1901. Margret Pearl was born in 1907. David Edson was born in 1911. Florence Ethel was born in 1914 and John Oscar was born in 1920.
In 1910 the family would move from Indiana to Freesoil, Mason, Michigan. Zachariah tried to farm but the land was almost worthless! He had a few dairy cows, some sheep, some pigs and a team of horses which he used for farming.
