She was the daughter of Joseph Michael Stafford, Sr. and Nancy (Whitlow) Stafford. Sidney and Nancy lived in Jackson County, Tennessee until around 1870 when they moved to Hill House, Coahoma County, Mississippi. They bought 2600 acres for 25 cents per acre. They prospered there until a yellow fever epidemic hit and killed several of the family including Nancy and their eldest son, James D. Dudney, a Confederate Veteran. Mom and son were buried in Hill House, Mississippi but their graves have not been located at this time. Sidney and many of the Dudney family moved back to Jackson County, Tennessee after the yellow fever epidemic.
