Lucille “Lucy” Galka, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, February 12, 2016 at her home at Pointe Frontier in Cheyenne.
Lucille was born on May 3, 1923 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Tom and Addie Jackson. She was an enrolled member of the Cherokee Tribe and was proud of her Native American ancestry.
Lucille graduated from Loveland High School in 1941. She married Floyd Bales in 1941 and they moved to Cheyenne in 1945. This union created three children, Dan Bales (Karen), Dr. Phil Bales (Ann), and Suzanne Bales Dawson (Bill).
During her time in Cheyenne, Lucille worked at Paul’s Drug, Bunten Pharmacy, Montgomery Wards, and DePaul Hospital.
In 1963 she divorced Floyd Bales and married John J. Galka, Jr. This union created a child, Greg Galka (Mindy).
Lucille was an active member of Christian Women’s Club and First Congregational Church, and was a very strong Christian woman. She was a talented and gifted seamstress and enjoyed sewing and participating in craft shows throughout the year. With a small group of women, Lucille and others would visit the nursing homes and VA Hospital to sing hymns and share the word of God.
Lucille is survived by her four children, Dan, Phil, Sue, and Greg; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Bettie Rae Burda; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Bales; her second husband, John Galka; her sisters, Muriel White, Thelma Hipps, Juanita Hunter; two brothers, Doyle and Dale Jackson; and her parents, Tom and Addie Jackson.
