Karen Jean (Meints) Ofstethun, the daughter of William and Tillie (Henn) Meints, was born May 13, 1939 in Belmond, Iowa, where she was raised and educated. On November 9, 1958, Karen was united in marriage with John Ofstethun in Belmond. The couple made their home in Clarion where they raised their two children: Kevin and Glenda. Karen was a member of First Lutheran Church and active with F.L.C.W. and the Priscilla and Afternoon circles. She worked as Parish Secretary at the church from 1975 until 2015.

Karen passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, the age of 76 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dr. Conrad Meints, Glenn Meints and Bill Meints; sister, Esther Halverson and brothers-in-law, Gus Halverson, Merrel Carpenter and Harold Haugen. Karen is survived by her husband, John Ofstethun; son Kevin Ofstethun and wife Judy of Clarion; daughter, Glenda Lambert and husband Steve of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Angela Hickey and husband Pat of Fort Dodge, Amanda Rosenkilde and husband Josh of Clarion, Chris Lambert and fiancé Raquel Rivera of Des Moines and Jessica Lambert of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren: Laila and Kinley Hickey and Gabe Rosenkilde; sisters, Grace Haugen of Dows and Marion Carpenter of Belmond; sisters-in-law, Jan Meints of Belmond, Ayako Meints of Warsaw, MO and Naomi Meints of Duluth. MN and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Clarion with Pastor Grant Woodley officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove in charge if arrangements. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
