Catherine Parker Garner died in her home, Friday, December 3, 2010.

She was born February 1, 1919 in Hooper, Utah at Catherine and Hyrum Rigby, her Grandparents' home during the flu epidemic.

Her parents were Vern Parker and Reta R. Parker. She was the first of seven girls. She was married to Lynn Garner, also of Hooper, in the Salt Lake Temple on January 2, 1940.

Music was a great part of her life. She began her musical career at the age of five when she and her sister Genevieve sang at the Ogden Tabernacle on Christmas morning. She learned to play the ukulele, and then the accordion, both by ear. She also learned to play a pump organ and the piano by ear at an early age. She could not read a note of music, but played the piano for road shows, school programs, and community programs. She sang hundreds of times with her six sisters. She was the piano and accordion player for the Hooper Home Town Players who performed throughout northern Utah numerous times. She played at the Heritage Care Center or nearly thirty years and for her volunteer service, received the Governor's Silver Bowl Award.

She was taught to be dependable by following the direction of her father who said, "If you say you will do it, then do it."

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended church in Hooper where she served in various positions. She was a visiting teacher her entire adult life. She was a member of the Utah Daughter's of Pioneers. Her faith in the Lord was strong and helped her through many hardships.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her son Ned, her parents and her sisters Genevieve Johnston, Dona Taylor, and Carol Jones. She is survived by her children, in addition to 3 of her sisters. Also, 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She loved all and was a wonderful example to all who knew her. A very special thanks to Roy Heritage Center. The Family Tree, Hospice, and all the nurses and aids in their loving care of our mother.
