Jane Mills Poll, 91, our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Jane was born July 9, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, to Samuel Mills and Rhoda Lucinda Taggart. She grew up in the small town of Bothwell, Utah and later moved to Brigham City, Utah. Jane’s mother died of cancer when she was 17 years old. To her younger siblings she became the mother they lost and a loving older sister. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1942.

After graduation, Jane moved to Ogden and started working at the Defense Depot.

On December 12, 1945, she married Royal Vine Poll in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They met on the dance floor and danced through life for 49 years. They were dance directors in the early years of their marriage. They purchased a 40 acre farm in South Weber, where they made their home, and where she has lived for the past 70 years. Vine passed away on February 17, 1993.

Jane has been active in her community and a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She and her husband served in the Charlotte, North Carolina Mission 1986-1987.

Jane has enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to sing and sang hundreds of songs from memory to her children and grandchildren. Her love of music has been passed down to all six of her children, three of which have sung in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She also loved writing, reading, cooking, traveling and gardening. She has always had a special love and interest in genealogy and family history.

She is survived by her six children: Charles (Sherrie) Poll, Brian (Patricia) Poll, Arnold (Patti) Poll, Darlene (Von) Moody, Elizabeth (Steven) Rice, Farrell (Sherry) Poll; 36 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and four sisters: Dorothy (Mac) Bird, Dyan (George) Welch, Rhoda LaNae (Daniel) Wheatley, and Sharon (Ramon) Messegee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepson Roger (Susanna) Busico, granddaughter Alisha Poll, grandson Bryant Patrick Poll, great-grandchildren, Gabriel Moody, Faith Alisha Poll, two sisters, Mary Athlene, Helen, and two brothers, Seaman and Charles.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stonehedge of Ogden for their tender loving care of our Mom.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the South Weber LDS Stake Center, 7989 South 2250 East, South Weber, Utah. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the stake center.

Interment, Mountain Green Cemetery.
