Hazel Bourne Stevens, 78, of the White Oak area in Stafford County, went home to be with her Lord on Sept. 7, 2006. Mrs. Stevens, a lifelong resident of Stafford, died at her home after a courageous battle against cancer. She was surrounded by the family she held most dear.
She was born May 21, 1928, and was the daughter of Henry Sealar Bourne and Gladys Newton Bourne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Alvery Stevens Jr. She worked at the Rappahannock Sportswear pants factory until the Lord told her to stay home and take care of her family, which she did faithfully until her death. She came to know the Lord at the age of 37 and spent the remainder of her life sharing the Good News of the salvation of Jesus Christ to all those she knew. She was known as a woman whose home was always open, and it contained enough love to embrace everyone who entered it. Everyone could feel her love when they walked through her door.
She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and supported many other Christian ministries throughout her life.
She is survived by her four children, Ronnie Stevens and his wife, Gail, Sharon Davis and her husband, Bob L. Davis, Debbie Williams and her husband, Robert R. Williams and Nancy Stevens; she is lovingly remembered by her 10 grandchildren, Katrina Williams Tuel, Kelli Williams Petty, Robbie Williams, Chad Ingram, Jennifer Williams Smith, Shawn Ingram, Alvery Lee Stevens, Rita Stevens Staton, Darla Stevens McGuire and Robert L. Davis II; 12 great-grandchildren, Michelle Spreeman, Lucas Higgins, Thomas Harris, Madison Petty, Victoria Tuel, CJ Ingram, Calvin Lee, Tyler Smith, Hailey Tuel, Brooke Ingram, Garrett Tuel and Isaac McGuire; three sisters, Marjorie Shackelford, Charlotte Cooper and Edna Wilson; a brother, Vernon "Bo" Bourne; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Bourne, and a grandson, David W. Williams Jr.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, at Covenant Funeral Service on Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert W. Smith, Jr. presiding. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bob Davis, Bobby Williams, Jerry Shackelford, Roger Burton, Johnny Pates and Guy Tuel. An online guest book is available at covenantfuneralservice.com.
