Mr. Barlow was born in Caldwell County to the late George W. and Gladys Fenner Barlow on Wednesday, January 5, 1949.
Garland was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps serving in Vietnam where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. He enjoyed walking, hiking and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barlow was preceded in death by: brothers, Bill, Rex and Jerry Barlow; a sister, Georgia Ann Cox.
Those left to carry on his memory include: daughter, Sherrie R. Staley and husband, Coy of N. Wilkesboro; sons, Eric Scott Barlow of Wilkesboro; grandson, Coy Staley, Jr. also of Wilkesboro; sister, Jean Church of Wilkesboro and brother, Kenny Barlow of Ferguson.
A memorial service will be at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Government Road, Salisbury, NC 28144. Service details will be posted at a later date. Full military honors for Marines will be presented.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: W.G. Hefner Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144.
