Larry Richard Atkins, age 67, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Tuesday, January 5th, 2016 unexpectedly at his home. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Vaughn and Rexie Miller Atkins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, C.W. Atkins. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Faye Webb Atkins; sons: Jody Atkins and Rusty Atkins of Spruce Pine; sisters: Pauline Murphy of Spruce Pine and Barbara Silvers and husband, Harry Lee, of Marion; brothers: Charles Atkins and wife, Ruth, of Marion, EJ Atkins and wife, Magdelene, of Spruce Pine and Bill Atkins of South Toe and a step-grandson, Tyler Jones. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and his special dog, Nikki, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 7th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Mike Rathbone and Rev. Wayne Braswell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Estatoe Church of God Building Fund at 422 US 19E, Spruce Pine, NC 28714.
