Rhoda B. Small, 96
WESTBROOK - Rhoda B. Small, 96, of Edna Joy Lane, Westbrook, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at the Barron Center in Portland. She was born in Jonesport, the daughter of Clinton and Evelyn (Carver) Crowley.

She lived on Beals Island until age 9 when her family moved to South Portland. She is a graduate of South Portland High School.
Rhoda married Luther A. Small on Sept. 19, 1945.

They were married for 63 years before he passed away in 2008. As a young woman she worked at a bakery and W.T. Grant in Portland. She played softball and was a member of the Langley Softball team who played in Boston Garden; she loved to tell that story. Luther and Rhoda were great supporters of Westbrook High School events from sports to concerts. She spent many years with the Steven W. Manchester Post baseball team, with Luther who was the manager. Rhoda also worked for the City of Westbrook as a ballot clerk for 50 years.
She was a master of crocheting. Many of her family and friends have her afghans and doilies that she loved to give as gifts. Rhoda loved to cook and bake delicious treats.

She is survived by her daughters Cheryl E. Leighton and husband Roy of Westbrook, and Janet M. Corbett and companion Charles Hamlin of Yarmouth; four granddaughters: Brenda Stearns and husband Christopher of Westbrook, Beth Binette and husband Michael of South Paris, Amy Labbe and husband Gary of Portland, and Meghan Corbett of Yarmouth; five great-grandchildren: Caitlyn and Benjamin Stearns, and Andrew, Nicholas, and Samuel Binette; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Woodlawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at:
