John Edwin Blackmon

John Edwin Blackmon was born in Wisner, Louisiana on October 13, 1932. He left us on December 22, 2015 at the age of 83 in League City.

An only child, he was pre-deceased by his parents, John C. and Ruby Payne Blackmon of Bacliff, Texas.

He was married several times over his life and leaves, as survivors, a number of step and natural children including: Rene Blackmon Nations of China TX, Glen Blackmon of Woodforest TX, John Kyle Blackmon of Carlyss LA, Jan Blackmon Pennington of Bacliff, Jimi Ells of San Antonio and Royce “Missy” Ellis of Friendswood.

John also had ten grandchildren, 21 great children and four great, great grandchildren.

He was raised in Bacliff and graduated Dickinson High School in 1951, where he played football and ran track. He served on active duty with the US Coast Guard Reserve from January 1953 to January 1955. He spent his entire career with and retired in 1985 from Monsanto’s Texas City refinery after 30 years of service. John was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, #1341, in Dickinson. He was also a member of the John Bell Hood Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was heavily involved in Civil War recreation events (including, to his chagrin, playing the role of Union soldiers in some of the events).

A private memorial service will be held later in January 2016.

The family has asked that any remembrances be made to the John Bell Hood Camp # 50 of the SCV, PO Box 2202, Galveston, TX 77553-2202.
