Richard Merle Sennert was born April 23, 1924 on the family farm near Albert City, Iowa, the son of Nicholas Ernest and Elda Lucena (Hoelscher) Sennert.

On June 14, 1931, Richard was baptized at the Methodist Church in Rembrandt, Iowa. He attended school at Lincoln-Lee Consolidated School, where he later graduated in 1942.

In 1944, Richard joined the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his service, he came home to farm.

On June 4, 1950, Richard was united in marriage to Marilene Jesse at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Together they were blessed with three children: twins, Randal and Ronald in 1951, and David born in 1953.

Richard was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. He was a former Elder for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cherokee and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta, President of Linn Grove Farmers Coop Elevator Board, and board member of Boone Valley Processors of Eagle Grove.

Richard was an eternal optimist. He enjoyed his "coffee shop", bowling, playing poker, dancing, reading books and watching Western movies. Most of all, Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and tried to live life everyday according to God’s word.
