Steve A. Westfall Obituary
ODESSA Steve A. Westfall of Odessa, TX won his battle with cancer the morning of December 14, 2015. He died at his residence of over 50 years. Steve was the eldest son of Arthur Stephen and Miriam Ada (Short) Westfall. He was born July 28, 1933 in Wilson Co. between Floresville and Stockdale, TX. He and his siblings were orphaned by the time he was ten. He lived with various relatives until his early teens when he began his lifelong work in the oil field. At 19, Steve was already a driller working mainly in south and central Texas.

Steve met and married the one true love of his life, Evelyn (James) Westfall, in Alice, TX. They had known each other for three months when they married July 28, 1953, on his 20th birthday. She always told him he could not return a birthday gift. Their marriage of 62 years began with several moves due to work and military life. Serving in the Army from April 1954 till April 1956, Steve lived from El Paso, TX to New York, NY and also in Hawaii. After army life, Steve and Evelyn, relocated to Odessa in August 1956 with one child and one on the way. His work history in Odessa was layered with sale outs and changes. Steve worked with Llano Drilling until they sold out. Followed by working with Cactus Drilling Corp. for several years. Then he worked for A.W. Thompson till they sold out to Santa Fe Drilling. Later, Steve went to work for Gulf Oil Co. and they sold out to Chevron. He retired from Chevron in 1995. After raising his family and working hard all of his life, Steve spent the last 20 years of his life enjoying his retirement. He joked that he was retiring from retirement in February of this year.

Steve did not finish school but attained his G.E.D. in 1978 at the age of 45. He was primarily self-taught reading and math skills. He attended many classes relating to his work, excelling in spite of his limited education. Throughout his life Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing and family. In later years he pasted the time with BINGO, bird dogs, more family and becoming a voracious reader.

Steve was a Master Mason of the Fellowship Lodge #1385 and also Scottish Rites of Lubbock, TX. He was a life time member of the VFW. He came to know his Savior and followed Him in baptism in the early '60's.

Steve will be remembered as a good man, honest and fair. He was a wonderful husband, father, grand and great grandfather.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Miriam Westfall; one son, Lance Wade Westfall; sisters, Marjorie Westfall Alderman and Dorothy Westfall Riley; brothers, Louis Edward (Ed) Westfall, Vaughn Alber (Westfall) Willeford and Mervin Lee (Westfall) Short. Steve was looking forward to being reunited with his many loving dogs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn Westfall; sons, Stanley Westfall and wife Susie, Keith Westfall and wife Chantel, both of Odessa, TX; daughter, Miran Westfall Northcott, also of Odessa. Nine grandkids: Sean, Andrea, Heidi, Tyson, Tricia, Steven, Kayla, Wade, and Kaitlyn; Seven great grandkids: Sadie, Skyler, Gregory, Lillian, Harrison, McKenzie, and Addison; brother, Jerry Short Westfall of Odessa, TX; and sister, Shirley Scheid of Abilene, TX.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Home Hospice of Odessa, whom were most supportive these last months. They suggest memorials to the same or the charity of your choice .

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, December 18, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home.
