Muriel E. “Betty” Snyder, 91, Fairmount, ND, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge, MN, under the care of hospice.

The memorial service will be Tuesday, December 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, with Pastor Mark Gronseth officiating. Music will be provided by Lana Sand and Rick Snyder.

Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Wahpeton, ND.

Muriel E. “Betty” Snyder was born on May 19, 1924, on the farm near Fairmount, ND, to Ernest and Ruby (Ford) Schutt. She attended Fairmount High School, graduating in 1942. She attended Ellendale Teachers College, Ellendale, ND, and taught at a country school in Greendale Township, Hankinson, ND, for a few years.

On December 1, 1945, Muriel married her high school sweetheart, Fred C. Snyder, Jr., in Milnor , ND. They built a farmstead in rural LaMars Township, Fairmount, where Muriel and Fred farmed for many years. Fred passed away in 2005.

Betty’s hobbies included flower gardening, crocheting, cooking, painting, and staining projects that Fred made in his woodworking shop. She also enjoyed lawn mowing, entertaining, and spending time at the lake cabin. In their early years, Betty and Fred were counselors for the Bethany Methodist Youth Group. They also played in the LaMars band. Betty entered Twin Town Villa in February 2014.

Betty and Fred were blessed with a son, Rick Snyder, a daughter, Pauline Mahler, and a granddaughter, Amber Kingzett.

Betty is survived by her children, Rick (Shirley) Snyder and Pauline (Ron) Mahler both of Fairmount; granddaughter, Amber (Charles) Kingzett of Ellendale; sisters, Dorothy (Benny) Rissky of Modesto, CA, Bernice Ferguson of Michigan, ND, Gwen Bernard of Helena, MT, and Doris Matejcek of Fairmount; sister-in-law, Muriel Sander of Wahpeton; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ruby; husband, Fred; sisters, Agnes Marx and Eunice Smith; brother, Byron Schutt and two brothers in infancy; brothers-in-law, Bud Chapman, Kenny Sander, Don Smith, Clyde Marx, Roger Ferguson and Ray Matejcek; sisters-in-law, Judy Schwegler, and Irene Chapman; and nephews, Randy Ferguson and Ross Matejcek.
