The first son of Richard J. and Nancy (Donnell) Braden, William F. was born in Decatur Co., IN, and named for his mother's brother, William Fisher Donnell. Marrying a local girl, Sarah Jane Taylor, in 1854, Will decided to relocate his young family to Brighton, IA, where he attended the Washington Academy, later moving them to Benton and Mahaska Cos., IA. In 1871, according to Mr. Braden's obituary, he removed with his family to Utica, MO, the Braden family then permanently settling in Osborne Co., KS, near Alton, in 1879.
For a few years, William Fisher Braden and his wife kept a hotel in Bull City, near Alton. Following his wife's death, however, Will returned to farming.
Five sons, Oral, Frank, Harry, George and Robert "Bob," and four daughters, Lucy, Elizabeth, Mary and Lavina were born to this Braden-Taylor union.
