Betty died November 30, 2015 in her apartment at Willow Park Assisted Living in Boise.

Betty was born February 2, 1918 in Irvington, NJ, the oldest of three children of Sarah and Roger Hodsdon. Her father was a naval officer and so the three children and their mother moved frequently, often across the country. She and her younger sister, Dorothy, attended five different high schools.

Betty attended the University of California with a degree in Education. She then went on to earn a Maters of School Administration from Stanford University in the early 1950's. Her son, Bill, was born in 1948 and they lived with her mother and father in Los Gatos, CA.

Betty taught primary children and reading in the San Jose School District for 37 years until she retired in the mid 70s. She and her sister, Dorothy, also a teacher, volunteered for the schools and the San Jose Historical Museum for the next 30 years.

Betty loved to travel. She was an exchange teacher to England in the mid 1950's. She loved to play golf, and bridge, and volunteered with the Echo Shop Thrift store in Saratoga, part of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where she was an active member for over 40 years. She was an active member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and an activist for many causes.

Betty and sister, Dorothy, moved to Boise in 2005 to be closer to family. Betty and Dorothy lived together for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by Dorothy in 2011.

She is survived by her brother, Roger K. Hodsdon, of San Jose; her son, William (Laurel) Brown; daughter-in-law, Mary Brown; granddaughters: Carrie (Scott) Cohen and Erin (Rob) Saldin; three great-granddaughters: Dehlia Cohen, Sylvie and Frankie Saldin, and a great-granddaughter to be born in February; two nieces: Ann (Dan) Swensen and their sons: Johan, Kristofer and Nicholas, and Kim Law; and grandnieces: Megan and Bailey; and other extended family.

We wish to thank the great staff of the Kingswood wing at Willow Park Assisted Living who lovingly cared for Betty over many years and especially in her last two weeks. We also wish to thank Legacy Hospice for their care of Betty in her last days.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to St. Andrew's Church, McCall, Idaho or a charity of your choice.

Inurnment will be at St. Andrew's Church, Saratoga, CA later this spring.
