Rites for Retired Methodist Minister Set for Thursday

Rev. C. S. Cameron, retired Methodist minister who served churches in the Northwest Texas Conference for 28 years, died at his home, 418 Palm Street, Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. He was in his 76th year.

Funeral service will be held at the First Methodist Church here Thursday at 2 p.m. after which the body will be conveyed to Sweetwater for burial. The Rev. W. C. Childress, First Church pastor, Dr. O. P. Clark of St. Paul Methodist Church and Dr. T. S. Knox, First Presbyterian Church minister, will conduct the rites.

Rev. Cameron last June suffered a stroke of paralysis which impaired his health. He had improved, however, and was able to make frequent trips downtown until Oct. 10 when his condition again became serious. Since that time, he had been confined to his home.

Born in Baton Rouge, La. on November 28, 1858, C. S. Cameron moved to Texas in young manhood. He attended old Mansfield College at Mansfield, and began preaching in 1890. Two years later he was ordained into the ministry and served 16 churches of the Northwest Texas Conference as pastor prior to his retirement 14 years ago. His pastorates were at Zephyr, Bangs, Peoria, Bosqueville, Troy, Holland, Salado, Dublin, DeLeon, Eastland, Roby, Paducah, Claude, Aspermont, Merkel and Anson.

He was superannuated at close of his Anson pastorate in 1920 and moved immediately to Abilene where he had resided since.

Rev. Cameron was married to Mrs. Mary Adelaide Murray in Cleburne on December 2, 1885. His wife, five children and two sisters survive. Children are T. E. Cameron of Dallas, C. E. Cameron of Lamesa, W. C. Cameron of Houston, Mrs. A. C. Dulaney of Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Ruble Gillan of Waco. The sisters are Mrs. J. F. Owen of Burleson and Mrs. John Bullock of Fort Worth.

C. E. Cameron, Mrs. Dulaney and Mrs. Owen were here when Rev. Cameron's death occurred. All other members of the family are expected for the funeral.

Active pallbearers will be Lyle Tarpley, Ernest W. Wilson, William Watts, Elmer Brown, James R. Orchard and T. L. Hiner. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Business Men's Bible Class of the First Methodist Church, Dr. M. A. Jenkins, Rev. Willis P. Gerhart, Dr. E. B. Surface, Methodists pastors of Abilene ad the Northwest Conference, H. O. Wooten, S. M. Jay, Nat G. Rollins, T. S. Rollins, T. E. Hayden, J. C. Pratt, Wiley Turner, H. A. Turner, George S. Anderson, J. Harvey Clark, J. L. Larramore, and J. M. Moody. All old friends of Rev. Cameron and family have also been named to the honorary list.
