John S. Eckert, 74, native son of Atchison county, died Saturday afternoon at his home in Arrington with heart trouble after a serious illness which lasted a month. An attack of flu last winter left him weakened.
John Sanford Eckert was born February 6, 1866, on the farm about two miles southeast of Arrington and on February 14, 1894, he married Miss Catherine Cruise. He spent all his life in the Arrington community and his death is a real loss. He was a devoted husband and father, a loyal citizen and neighbor, and a real friend.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. Glen Wright of Arrington, Mrs. Ray Hinman of Denison, Mrs. Joe Coupe of Topeka and John Eckert of Topeka. Also surviving are one brother, Jacob Eckert of Arrington, and eight grandchildren.
The rosary was recited at the home Sunday evening, and funeral services were at St. Ann's Catholic church at Effingham this morning.
