Jacob Eckert Sr. was born in Prussia, Germany, Feb. 14, 1830, and died May 20, 1905. When a boy of nineteen, he moved with his parents to America, locating at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Having remained there for three years, he came to Kansas and located on a farm in Atchison County, where he lived for forty-two years. In June 1901, retiring from farm life, he moved to Arrington, Kansas where his closing years were spent.
He was married to Julia Ann Gliem on December 14, 1858. To them were born five children, two sons and three daughters, all of whom survive their father.
Mr. Eckert was a good citizen and neighbor. For thirty-six years he was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday May 21, after which the body was taken to Muscotah for internment.
