He was born May 20, 1949, along with a twin brother, Donald in Fairbury, Illinois to Clanis "Hebron" and Mary (Mosby) Garmon. They were the youngest of 11 children. He spent his childhood years growing up on a farm north east of Rossville and graduated from the Rossville School system in 1968. Following high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1969.
Surviving are a daughter, Michelle (Eddy) Smith; a son, John Elliott; a grandson; three sisters, Ruby (Glen) Benway, Judy Willis and Sandra (Don) Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sondra Sisson; five sisters, Dorothy (George) Perkins, Nina (Walter) Flessner, Shelby (Henry) Aquino, Virginia (Tom) O'Conner and Geneva (Kenneth) and two brothers, Ray, and his twin brother, Don (Linda) Garmon.
