Lewis Ellison "Daws" McDaniel is the son of John Gideon and Amanda Elizabeth (Barker) McDaniel. He married Della Mae Parris, daughter of George Washington Paris and Mariah (Bush) Paris, on May 8, 1894, in Macon County, Missouri. They settled in Scotland County, Missouri, where they farmed in Vest Township, later living for many years on Missouri Avenue at the northwest edge of Memphis. They raised three sons: Ernest Edwin, Ellis Alvin, and Aaron Augustine.
