Alton Adams of Kirbyville passed from this life on October 31, 2015 in Alamogordo, Otero County, New Mexico due to complications from a stroke. He was born March 20, 1931 in Friendship, Jasper County, Texas and was the baby of a family of ten children. He graduated from Newton High School in 1949, served in the United States Air Force, and retired from the Texaco Oil Refinery in Port Arthur Texas. He was a life-long rancher and farmer. He loved the outdoors and spent his leisure time deer hunting and fox hunting. He was never without a pen of quality hunting dogs. He served as a trustee of the Kirbyville C.I.S.D. school board, as President of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, served as an election judge, and helped to establish the Kirbyville Veteran's Memorial. He was a hard-working man with strong convictions, a proud member of the Oil, Chemical, & Atomic Workers Union of the AFL & CIO and a life-long Democrat.

He was predeceased by his parents; Arthur E. Adams and Miriam Sheffield Adams, his first wife; Mary Alyce Ogg Adams, his second wife Annie Sue Ogg Grissom Adams and his daughter; Connie Adams Olds and 8 siblings. He is survived by his sister Margaret Andrews of Center Texas, son; Gary Adams and wife Jill of Normangee Texas and Timberon New Mexico; step sons; Mark Grissom and wife Sharon of Vidor Texas, Keith Grissom and wife Carla of Orange Texas, Bruce Grissom of Missouri, and step daughter Judy Grissom Hicks and husband Buddy of Pt. Neches Texas; grandchildren; Keisha Lovoi and husband Jasper of The Woodlands Texas, Courteney Peacher and husband Wayne of Jasper Texas, and Marvin Olds Jr. of Jasper Texas, and seven great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held in Gateway Pentecostal Church on November 7th at 10:00 A.M. with Brother Danny Lewis presiding. Visitation will be held at Adams E. E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville Texas from 5 until 7 P. M. on Friday November 6th. He will be laid to rest at Friendship Cemetery. Pall bearers include, George Andrews, Mark Grissom, Keith Grissom, Shannon Adams, Buddy Hicks, and Dr. Jasper Lovoi. Honorary pall bearers include all of his friends and hunting companions.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Friendship Cemetery Association, 3906 CR 451 Kirbyville Texas, 75956.
