Walter Raymond Merritt was the son of John William and
Zella Mae (Boler) Merritt. Husband of Alice Elizabeth
(Richwine) Merritt. Father of five children.

Services for Walter R. Merritt, age 68, Danville, who died August 5 at the University Hospital in Indianapolis, were August 8 from the Weaver Funeral Home, Danville. Rev. Sherman Essex officiated. Burial was in the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery.

A native of Pittsboro, Mr. Merritt was born Oct. 14, 1912, a son of William J. and Mae (Boler) Merritt. He was married in 1937 to Alice Elizabeth Richwine, who preceded in 1956. On July 23, 1971, he married Mildred Carrier who survives.

He attended schools at Pittsboro, retired from Diamond Chain in 1975 after 33 years service, and was a farmer. He moved to Danville from Indianapolis nine years ago.

Surviving with his widow are two sons, William A. Merritt of North Salem and David Merritt of Lebanon; three daughters, Helen Amers and Etta Mae Hays, both of Indianapolis, and Linda Gillon of Lebanon; two half-sisters, Margaret Spoon and Louzina Spoon, both of Pittsboro; a half-brother, Lloyd Merritt of Greensburg, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and five step-children.
