Isaac Zook
The 1829 tax list of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, shows Isaac "Sook" with one horse and three cows, and by 1831, he was listed as "escaped." Actually, the 1830 census taker for Jackson Township, Wayne County, Indiana, had earlier found the family with three small daughters, having moved in 1828 with his parents and siblings or followed soon thereafter. Over the next two decades in adjacent Henry County, the family farmed and increased in size by seven, including five sons, before returning to a Wayne County farm two miles northwest of Hagerstown.
In 1885, the families of sons John and David relocated in Sumner County, Kansas. Their widowed mother Susan followed, and died in 1887 at Conway Springs. Her body was shipped back to Indiana at a cost of $75, and buried beside Isaac in the Brick Church Cemetery.
