Ricky Elmer Saxton
June 08, 1953 ~ October 14, 2015

On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 14th a Gentle Giant earned his wings. We called him Grandpa, Dad, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Sweetheart and my other half.

Rick was the son of Elmer Saxton and Lorraine Gale. He was born in Uinta County, Wyoming on June 8, 1953. He passed away October 14, 2015 in Herriman, Utah after a long battle with multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and scoliosis. Rick was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

When Rick was 7 years old they moved to Sugarhouse, Utah where he attended elementary and middle school. Rick was an Eagle Scout. He attended Highland High School where he lettered in football and attended the U of U.

He married Cheryl Roper, June 1972. They had 3 children together. Later divorced, he married Melody Moody, April 1984 who had 3 children. She passed away May of 2009. He married Roberta Fowles in June 2010. (March 2011 he and Melody were sealed for all eternity.)

Rick worked for Consolidated Freight as a short haul driver in the Salt Lake, Davis and Weber and Cache counties for 28 years. He was very disappointed when the MS forced him into an early retirement 18 months short of 30 years.

He was an avid bowler, bowling on several bowling leagues. He also loved golf and would go whenever he could get way and sometimes even when he shouldn’t have. He never missed watching a Utah JAZZ game. He often commented how silly the people who paid money to go see the JAZZ game when you could see everything right there on TV; UNTIL he got tickets to 5 games for Christmas. He proudly declared, “That was the best gift I ever got!!!”

His mother still goes on and on about what a great basketball player he was on the ward team. She also made sure that when he went to high school dances, he would be the best looking one there (and she wasn’t prejudice.)

He loved cats! He would befriend any stray by feeding it, giving it a name, and lots of love. Rick loved to read; he read and studied his scriptures on a regular basis. He would read the entire paper cover to cover, finishing up with the comics and Sudoku puzzle every day. He always stayed up late to watch his TV shows until at least 1 AM.

As Rick became more dependent on his power wheelchair and less active in sports, it gave him more time to form strong bonds with his children and grandchildren. Attending Eagle Scout programs, dance recitals, birthday parties, sporting events, and church functions.

He is survived by his mother Lorraine, wife Roberta, children Brandon (Wendy), Jennifer Warner (Brian), Lindsay Nelson (Dave), Rebecca Bachlli (Bobby), Valerie Stuaffer, 20 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and his sister Jean Hamilton (Rick.)

He was preceded in death by his father Elmer, wife Melody, and stepson Vance.

Viewing to be held on October 19, 2015 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM. Western Springs 1st Ward Chapel at 4570 West 12877 South Riverton, Utah.

Interment to follow at Lake Hills Memorial Park in Sandy, Utah.
