Orlo was the youngest of five children born to Florus DeWitt and Genevieve Lillian (Sherman) Fitch. His siblings were Blanche Manolo, who died in childhood, Claude Sherman, Arthur DeWitt, and Laura Alice.
He grew up in the Rock Falls area and attended Holdrege High School. On 17 May 1917, he was married to Helen Dillman in Holdrege, Nebraska. The couple had two children, Doris Elaine and Donald Dillman.
Orlo farmed in the Holdrege area until his retirement. He served on rural school boards, Holdrege Coop Equity Board, Prairie Home Cemetery Board, was a Phelps County Supervisor, and a member of the First Methodist Church of Holdrege.
Orlo died at Methodist Memorial Homes at the age of 90 years, five months, and 19 days.
