Jones Stattner, Jr., 85, of Caldwell, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Monday, October 19, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23rd at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Dakan Chapel.
Jones was born in Gate, Oklahoma on February 24, 1930, the first born of Jones Stattner, Sr. and Sarah Ellen Eells Stattner. He attended grade school in Harper County, Oklahoma.
In 1943 at the age of 13, he moved with his family from Oklahoma to Idaho and settled in the Sunnyslope area. Jones finished 8th grade at Sunnyslope Grade School and started high school in Caldwell, but with no transportation to attend school, and being the oldest of five siblings, Jones got a job to help his dad support their family. They both worked at Hoskins Fruit Ranch for a few years.
Jones later worked for Owyhee Motor Sales in Homedale where he purchased his first car. In 1948, he went to work for JR Simplot Company and was there 43 years until his retirement in 1991.
In 1952, Jones met the love of his life, Norma J. Stevenson. They married in May of 1953 and to this union four children were born: Debra, Raymond, Becky and Ronald. After Jones retired, he and Norma became ‘snowbirds’ and traveled to Arizona for the winters. In the summer, they made annual trips to Alaska to visit their youngest son and his family. Those last 14 years were truly “Golden Years”.
Jones was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved camping, fishing, and riding four-wheelers with the children. His natural ability for repairing things was phenomenal. Give him a screwdriver and a pair of pliers and he could fix anything that was broken.
Jones is survived by his wife, Norma; sons: Ray (Shelley) Stattner and Ron (Carla) Stattner; daughters, Debra (Dan) Marston and Becky (Jeff) Marler; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Thelma) Stattner; a sister, Maryann Bow; a sister-in-law, Darlene Stattner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Venetta Chrz; his brother, James Stattner; and nephews, Dusty and Gary Joe.
