A daughter of Joseph Lane (1814-1854) and Lucy Christmas Hopper (1821-1893), Jane Hopper Lane married Rev. Daniel Early Field (1831-1916, son of Rev. Benton Field and Martha F. Guerrant) on 12 Feb. 1856. Later that year, his widowed father and her widowed mother were married.

Daniel and Jane had four children:

A. John Early Field (21 Nov. 1856-19 March 1903) m. Florence Gannaway (27 Dec. 1859-8 Oct. 1941) on 27 April 1881, in Randolph County, NC. Were in Lawrence Co. Indiana in 1900. Children: Henry G. Field (14 Feb. 1882-4 June 1884); Anna B. (Oct. 1884), Daniel G. B. (Nov. 1887), Janie Field (18 June 1893).

B. Mary Susan "Susie" Field (7 April, 1859-26 Jan. 1926) m. John Abram Rowe (19 Aug. 1858-12 Aug. 1941) on 12 Feb. 1888 at Leaksville, NC. In the 1900 census Lawrence Co., Indiana. 4 children, 3 living, all born in Indiana: Lelia F. (Nov. 1893, listed as Delia in 1910), John Abram Rowe, Jr. (29 Jan. 1896, disabled by infantile paralysis in WW I card, a college student, d. 20 Feb. 1990, Santa Rose, Sonoma Co., CA, per SS index), George D. (7 Nov. 1897-11 Nov. 1962).

C. Thomas William Field (Oct. 1861-11 Dec. 1927) m. Maggie V. Livingston (2 Sept. 1866-21 Aug. 1921, dau. of Charles Livingston and Mary Paschall, born Madison, Fla.). Was called "Mr. Buck," owned a men's clothing store and lived at 809 Lindsay Drive, Leaksville, per the Leaksville architecture book. Per the 1900 census, they were married about 1890, and had no children in 1900. His death certificate says he was born in 1860, and gives his name as William Thomas Field.

D. Lelia B. Field (12 Feb., 1865-26 Jan. 1945, Buncombe Co., NC). Ran a school at her father's home. She married Thomas Ruffin Huffines (14 Aug. 1860-12 July 1942, per family tree on Ancestry.com, a son of Lewis Craven Huffines and Sarah Ann Hopkins) circa 1886, and they were living in Bedford, Lawrence Co., Indiana in 1900-1930. 1900 census says 5 children, 4 living: Susie C. (Sept. 1886), Lelia Estelle (Sept. 1889), Dr. Thomas Ruffin (10 Jan. 1894, Edgecombe Co., NC, d. 25 May 1958, Buncombe Co., NC, m. Loraine Cross on 6 Oct. 1919, Allen Co. IN.), Margaret Rowe (10 Nov. 1895, Edgecombe Co.-16 March 1988, Buncombe Co., NC, m. J. F. Gooch), Catherine (c.1905)

After Jane's death, Daniel married her younger sister, Martha Ann "Pattie" Lane (1841-1909).
