Ethel was the daughter of Alfred Brugh and Sarah Ellen Davis, who married on 20 Oct 1883 in Marshall Co., Indiana. Alfred and Sarah had seven children together (per Sarah on the 1940 Census)—Frederick Elias (21 Sep 1894), Ethel Marie (May 1897), Goldie Artamish (28 Jan 1901), Elizabeth Adaline (circa 1903), Conda Franklin (31 May 1907), and two unidentified children who were born and died before 1900.

I found them on the 1900 Census, living in Plymouth's Center Township in Marshall Co., Indiana. Alfred Brugh, aged 40, was earning a living as a day laborer. Sarah, aged 34, reported that she had had four children, but that only two had survived to that census. There with their parents were son Fred, aged 5, and Ethel, aged 3.

They were still living in Center Township when the 1910 Census rolled around. Alfred, aged 52, was working as a section hand for the railroad. Sarah, aged 42, reported that five of her seven children were living. There with their parents in 1910 were Frederick, aged 16, Ethel, aged 12, Goldie, aged 9, Elizabeth, aged 7, and Conda, aged 2.

The 1920 Census found them still in Center Township. Alfred, aged 61, was working as a general laborer. Sarah, aged 51, was keeping house. Still living at home with their parents were Ethel, aged 22, Artie, aged 19, Elizabeth, aged 16, and Conda, aged 12. Eldest son Frederick had married wife Etta and they had welcomed the first two of their daughters—Myrtle and Goldie.

They were still in Center Township in 1930, the Inwood area. Alfred, aged 70, was doing some gardening and odd jobs. Sarah, aged 62, was keeping house. Still living at home were Ethel, aged 32 and doing seamstress work, and son Condy, aged 22 and working as a plater for a metal works company.

On 20 Oct 1933, Ethel's parents Alfred and Sarah celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

The three of them appeared again together on the 1940 Census, still in Plymouth's Center Township. Alfred, aged 81, was retired. Sarah, aged 72, reported that she had had seven children. Only Ethel, aged 42, was still living at home with her parents.

Three years after that census, Ethel's mother Sarah died on 13 Jul 1943 at age 75. Ethel's father Alfred died in 1951 at age 92 or 93.

Ethel does not appear to have ever married. She died in 1996 at age 99.
