I believe that Addie was the daughter of Alfred Brugh and Sarah Ellen Davis, who married on 20 Oct 1883 in Marshall County, Indiana. Alfred and Sarah had seven children together (per Sarah on the 1940 Census)—Frederick Elias (21 Sep 1894), Ethel Marie (May 1897), Goldie Artamish "Artie" (28 Jan 1901), Elizabeth Adaline "Addie" (1903), Conda Franklin (31 May 1907), and two unidentified children who were born and died before 1900.

I found them on the 1900 Census, living in Plymouth's Center Township in Marshall Co., Indiana. Alfred Brugh, aged 40, was earning a living as a day laborer. Sarah, aged 34, reported that she had had four children, but that only two had survived to that census. There with their parents were son Fred, aged 5, and daughter Ethel, aged 3.

They were still living in Center Township when the 1910 Census rolled around. Alfred, aged 52, was working as a section hand for the railroad. Sarah, aged 42, reported that five of her seven children were living. There with their parents in 1910 were Frederick, aged 16, Ethel, aged 12, Goldie (aka Artie), aged 9, Elizabeth (aka Addie), aged 7, and Conda, aged 2.

The 1920 Census found them still in Center Township. Alfred, aged 61, was working as a general laborer. Sarah, aged 51, was keeping house. Still living at home with their parents were Ethel, aged 22, Artie, aged 19, Elizabeth (aka Addie), aged 16, and Conda, aged 12. Eldest son Frederick had married wife Etta and they had welcomed the first two of their daughters—Myrtle and Goldie.

Within a year or two of that census, Addie married Daniel D. Martin, the son of Charles L. Martin and Mary Emma Amons Craig. On 29 Aug 1925, Addie and Daniel welcomed daughter Betty Jane. I found the three of them together on the 1930 Census, living at 1006 Walnut St. in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana. Daniel, aged 30, was working in Plymouth's box factory. Addie, (Elizabeth A. on the record), aged 25, was home with 5-year-old Betty Jane.

On 20 Oct 1933, Addie's parents Alfred and Sarah Brugh, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

By 1935, Addie, Daniel and Betty had relocated to Whiting, Lake Co., Indiana, and by 1940, they were living in Hammond, Lake County. Daniel, aged 41, was earning a paycheck as a boiler washer. Addie, aged 37, was keeping house. Daughter Betty Jane, aged 15, was likely still in school.

The year 1943 took a big toll on this family. Addie's mother Sarah's died on 13 Jul 1943 at age 75. A month later Addie and husband Daniel were involved in a tragic car accident on 5 August 1943, in which Addie died. She would have been about 40 years old. Daniel did not survive his injuries and died after the accident. Sad times.

Addie and Daniel's daughter Betty Jane, only 17 years old at the time of the accident, lived a long and (I hope) a happy life. She became Betty Jane Newton, and moved to Frankfort, Kentucky where she lived to age 82.
