ORTANNA, Pa. R. Hayes Keefer, 84, of 221 N. Sixth St., died Friday, April 26, 2002, at 915 Buchanon Valley Road, Ortanna.
Born Dec. 15, 1917, in Websters Mill, Pa., he was the son of the late George W. and Mary G. Mellott Keefer.
He was a farmer, and later was a contractor who built homes and churches in Franklin County and the surrounding area.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
He was a member of Clayton Memorial Church, Mercersburg, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Marjorie Henry Keefer; two sons, James Keefer of Mercersburg, and Charles Keefer of Tomstown, Pa.; one daughter, Donna Hull of Chambersburg; one brother, Frank Keefer of Fort Loudon, Pa.; four sisters, Edna Funk of Greencastle, Pa., Bessie Marie Stoner of Williamsport, Esther Shipley of Waynesboro, Pa., and Nellie Wishard of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Keefer and John Keefer; three brothers, George Keefer, Henry Keefer and Harry Keefer; and two sisters, Lydia Hastings and Mary Jane Keebaugh.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Ltd., Chambersburg. The Rev. Floyd E. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
