Funeral services for Mrs. James A. Tool, 82 long-time resident of Monroe who died Wednesday morning, were conducted Friday morning at 10:30 from Tool's Chapel with Rev. R.J. Arms of Coon Rapids, former pastor, in charge. Music was furnished by friends and neighbors of the deceased, including Mrs. John Dykstra, Mrs. Amos Woody, Mr. & Mrs. Neal McKee and Chris Vander Pol with Mrs. Bert Vaught, accompanist. Selections used were "It Is Well with My Soul" "Abide with me' and "Sun of My Soul". Interment was in the Monroe Cemetery, with pallbearers, all of whom were relatives of the deceased as follows: Clifford and Ralph Woody of Reasnor, Will McConeghey, Bert Vaughn, Howard and Frank Barnes.

Mary Emma was the eldest daughter of Hodgen & Mary A. Barnes and was born Dec. 19, 1852 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and died Feb. 21, 1934 at the Barnes home near Tool's Chapel where she had made her home with her brother Frank for a number of years.
Mrs. Tool has lived, most of her life in the Tool's Chapel neighborhood, coming to Iowa with her parents while in young womanhood. She joined the M.E. church at Tool's Chapel. Later in life, Dec. 19, 1892, she was united in marriage to James A. Tool and lived at his farm residence near Tool's Chapel un­til Mr. Tool departed this life, Oct. 15, 1910. She then moved to Monroe where she spent a few years, then came and lived a few years in the old home, where she passed away.
Those who preceded her in death were her husband, James A. Tool, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hodgen Barnes; two sisters, Jennie and Lizzie Barnes and one nephew, Merril Woody. She is survived by two brothers, Howard, of Monroe, Iowa and Frank at home; one sister, Mrs. Morgan Woody of Reasnor; nieces and nephews, Miss Huldah Woody, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Woody, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Metcalf and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Woody,all of Reasnor, Iowa; Mrs. Merril Woody of Des Moines, besides other rela­tives and friends.
