Mary Emma was the eldest daughter of Hodgen & Mary A. Barnes and was born Dec. 19, 1852 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and died Feb. 21, 1934 at the Barnes home near Tool's Chapel where she had made her home with her brother Frank for a number of years.
Mrs. Tool has lived, most of her life in the Tool's Chapel neighborhood, coming to Iowa with her parents while in young womanhood. She joined the M.E. church at Tool's Chapel. Later in life, Dec. 19, 1892, she was united in marriage to James A. Tool and lived at his farm residence near Tool's Chapel until Mr. Tool departed this life, Oct. 15, 1910. She then moved to Monroe where she spent a few years, then came and lived a few years in the old home, where she passed away.
Those who preceded her in death were her husband, James A. Tool, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hodgen Barnes; two sisters, Jennie and Lizzie Barnes and one nephew, Merril Woody. She is survived by two brothers, Howard, of Monroe, Iowa and Frank at home; one sister, Mrs. Morgan Woody of Reasnor; nieces and nephews, Miss Huldah Woody, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Woody, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Metcalf and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Woody,all of Reasnor, Iowa; Mrs. Merril Woody of Des Moines, besides other relatives and friends.
