Jerry Wayne McFadden 70, of Paris, passed through the gates of Heaven Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his home following a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services are set for 4:00 PM, Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Patrick Cannon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 PM Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home prior to the service. All other times, the family will be at the home of Jon and DeLana McFadden. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Jerry was born July 28, 1945 in Paris. He graduated from Paris High School, Paris Junior College and East Texas State University earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He served his country in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve for over 40 years during the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and the Bosnian Conflict. He was selected as a finalist for Navy Sailor of the Year and retired with the rank of E-9 Command Master Chief. He also served many tours of duty in Korea and Singapore and had a passion for aiding children in the Korean orphanages and conducted fund raising efforts with his students to benefit these orphanages.
He was a teacher for PISD for 33 years teaching at Justiss Elementary and Travis Middle School where he taught History, Occupational Investigation, Construction Trades, and Computer Literacy. He also coached a variety of sports and taught driver education at PISD and North Lamar ISD.
Jerry married Diane Welch on June 17, 1966 in Paris. Together they enjoyed camping and traveling during his retirement years. He was a member of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Diane McFadden; two sons, Terry Lynn McFadden and Jon Patrick McFadden and wife, DeLana; two granddaughters, Kira Jonae McFadden and Julia Del McFadden; his sister, Rita Kay Giles and husband, Michael; nieces, Renee Jordan and Rebecca Jo McFadden; nephew, Richard McFadden; his mother-in-law, Lillian Welch; and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. McFadden and Margie Lorene Boss McFadden Butler; his brother, William Dale McFadden and wife, Camille; a nephew, Darren Ausmus; his step-father, John Butler; and father-in-law, Roy Welch.
Pallbearers will be Loren Stephens, Butch Peel, Thurman Wood, Bobby Wear, Marshall Sugg, and Bobby Anthony.
