George Ernest Rhoades died Monday, January 26, 1987 at the McCook Community Hospital at the age of 88. He was born July 10, 1898 in Rosalie to David and Louisa (Nissen) Rhoades.

He was married October 26, 1918 to Fairy E. Seybold, and they lived all of their married life in Culbertson.

He attended school in Franklin. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Culbertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, William and Glen; one daughter, Emma Louisa; two sisters, Molly Seybold and Viola Strickler; and two brothers, William Jennings Bryan Rhoades and Lester Alvin Rhoades.

Survivors include his wife, Fairy of Culbertson; three sons, Earle D. of Amarillo, Texas; Merle A. of Topeka, Kansas; and Wayne E. of Union City, California; three daughters, LaVaughn Anderson of McCook; Maxine Talley of Culbertson; and Barbara Morthole of Lakewood, Colorado; two sisters, Mildred Pennell of Benkelman and Mabel McDermed of Culbertson; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. J.B. Choate officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery under the direction of the Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home of McCook.
